Gender field

Gender plays a unique role on Upshot, alongside First name or Nickname this is a required field and this cannot be changed. The combination of these fields gives the system a minimum amount of information on every attendee added to Upshot, allowing the system to start cross referencing for potential duplicates.

By default the following options for Gender will be shown on every Upshot account:

  • Male
  • Female
  • Transgender
  • Intersex
  • Non-binary *
  • Other
  • Prefer not to say
  • Not provided

* this will only be shown by 'default' on accounts created after August 2022.

These will be shown on both the Gender field when adding a new attendee to the system or within the demographic question of 'Gender' on Public Surveys.

System Admins have the flexibility to choose from a range of options that they can choose to display in both these areas for their organisation.

By going to Admin > Gender field, System Admins will be presented with a much broader range of Gender options, including options such as Gender neutral, Questioning and Prefer to self describe. These options can be amended to displayed if an organisation would like these to be available.

Organisations can also choose to amend existing options to Not displayed if they have not already been used for attendee data or public survey responses.

Information on usage will be shown under the existing option and users would have to 'edit' attendee data or 'delete' (in the case of public survey responses) to then have the choice to hide this option.

Identifying attendees with a particular option under the attendee data field can be done via the People Report. Editing could be completed by either going to the profile or via People > Add Missing Data.

The list of additional options available will be kept under review by the Upshot team with external advice taken.

Note: Because the 'Gender' field is a mandatory field on the system due the 'Not provided' option will always be set to be displayed for this field.
