Managing Data Changes and Recovery

We understand mistakes happen

Upshot is a powerful platform designed to give you control over your data. With that power comes responsibility. We know that, from time to time, data can be deleted or changed unintentionally, especially when using advanced features.

Our aim is to help you use the platform confidently, while being clear about what can and cannot be undone.

Understanding irreversible actions

Some actions in Upshot permanently change data records. These include, for example:

  • Deleting data in bulk
  • Running processes such as pseudonymisation
  • Overwriting records
  • Deleting data fields

Once these actions are completed, they may not be fully reversible. Changes can also affect linked or related data across your system, which can increase the complexity of recovery.

Before using Upshot's more complex features, or a function you are not familiar with, we strongly recommend contacting our support team for guidance.

What recovery options may be available

Depending on what happened and when, there may be options to help you recover data.

These can include:

  • Restoring data from system backups where feasible
  • Partial recovery of specific records or files
  • Manual intervention by our technical team

Backups are designed primarily for system resilience, not routine rollbacks, so recovery is not always guaranteed. We will asses what is realistically possible and explain your options clearly.

Costs and responsibilities

If data loss or change is caused by a fault, we will resolve this at no cost to you.

If the issue results from user-initiated actions, where the platform behaves as designed, recovery work may involve additional specialist support and services, and costs may apply. We will discuss this with you in advance, explain the scope of work, and agree next steps before proceeding.

How to reduce risk

You can significantly reduce the risk of disruption by:

  • Exporting data before making major changes
  • Hiding rather than deleting
  • Running the process on a smaller number of records
  • Avoiding bulk actions unless necessary
  • Asking for advice if you are insure
  • Involving support early when planning complex work.

These steps can save time, cost and stress.
